Steel fireplace – who it suits and what enclosure to use

A steel fireplace insert heats up quickly and releases heat into the room quickly. It is a good choice for homes where the fireplace is meant to supplement heating in the living room, rather than run around the clock as the sole heat source. HEATING inserts have a body made of 3 mm P265GH boiler steel plate, the same steel used in boilers and pressure vessels, resistant to high temperature and deformation.

The 620, 720, HEATING PRO M 6 and M 7 models have a closed combustion chamber lined with 3 cm ceramic concrete (instead of firebrick), two baffles and a steel ash pan. This means they can be installed in a warm, heat-storage enclosure, including a hypocaust system, without convection grilles. Each one comes with a declaration of conformity with EN 13229 and the Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2015/1185, and has energy efficiency class A+.

Corner or straight steel fireplace

A corner insert has a front glass panel and a side glass panel (on the left or right), so the fire can be seen from two sides of the enclosure – it works well in a living room corner or on the boundary between a living room and dining room. A straight insert has a single front glass panel and suits a symmetrical, wall-mounted enclosure. The parameters of both versions are very similar: the 620 / PRO M 6 has 10 kW and a 600 mm glass panel, the 720 / PRO M 7 has 11 kW and a 740 mm glass panel. The most powerful model in the range is the straight HEATING PRO M 16 (16 kW).

Steel fireplace for MVHR homes

All steel HEATING inserts have a 100 mm combustion air inlet that is routed outside the building. This means the insert does not draw air from the room, so it is suitable for homes with mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) and for energy-efficient buildings.

Steel or cast iron fireplace

Steel heats up faster and gives off more heat in a shorter time; cast iron stores heat for longer and releases it after the fire has gone out. Steel HEATING inserts made of 3 mm plate have class A+ and an efficiency above 80%, while cast iron inserts have class A. If you need a water jacket or a three-sided insert, take a look at our cast iron inserts.

Questions and answers

Which steel fireplace should I choose for 100 m²?

For a well-insulated home of 80–100 m², 10 kW is enough – the HEATING 620 / PRO M 6. For 90–110 m², the 720 / PRO M 7 (11 kW) is a better fit, and for large, open interiors, the PRO M 16 (16 kW, roughly 130–160 m²).

Can a steel fireplace insert be enclosed without convection grilles?

Yes. The 620, 720, HEATING PRO M 6 and M 7 inserts, made of 3 mm P265GH boiler steel plate, are approved for heat-storage enclosures and hypocaust systems, without convection grilles.

What is the difference between the HEATING 620 and the HEATING PRO M 6?

It is the same insert under two commercial names – identical parameters and declaration of conformity. The website lists them as separate product pages so each name is easy to find.

Do the HEATING steel inserts have firebrick?

The combustion chamber is lined with 3 cm ceramic concrete, which serves the same role as firebrick (chamotte): it protects the body and raises the combustion temperature.

Where can I get the declaration of conformity and technical drawing?

The declaration of conformity (PL and EN for the PRO M 6 / M 7) and a dimensioned technical drawing can be downloaded from each model's product page. Other documents are sent on request.
